Atlantic crossing leg two: Horta, Faial, Azores to Gibraltar. Distance to Gibraltar 1140 Nautical Miles.
We are off! After two short days in Horta, where we have changed sails, serviced the engine, replaced the faulty water pump, topped up with fuel and water, re-provisioned, and generally cleaned and tidied, we finally set sail at 7am local time (also GMT) and are now on our second passage to mainland Europe. Despite all the chores we had a great time in Horta, making full use of the restaurants and especially Peter’s Bar!
We expect the passage to take 7 to 8 days before we reach the mainland at Cabo Sao Vincent, the south westerly tip of Portugal. From there is will be another three or four days to Gibraltar as we will have to hug the coast to avoid nasty surprises from the resident orca population. We are in good spirits and looking forward to an enjoyable passage.
Glad you’re well rested!
The orcas sound terrifying 😱

Even more terrifying seen close up yesterday! But also amazing to see them, and nothing bad happened.
