Land Ahoy! We have arrived at Faial in the Azores after exactly 19 days at sea covering a distance of 2788 nautical miles! It is a fantastic feeling, a great relief and a wonderful sense of achievement.
Arriving in Horta, we have docked on the fuel pontoon and gone through the immigration formalities. We’ve topped up with fuel and have already started on the numerous jobs and repairs that have become necessary since departing the Caribbean. We have hoisted our spare mainsail, replaced the freshwater pump, topped up with water, stocked up with provisions and generally tidied the boat. Tonight we’re looking forward to eating out and enjoying some fresh seafood and a few well earned beers.
We are under a bit of time pressure so are already thinking of our onward journey to Gibraltar. It is likely that we’ll only stay here for one or two days before moving on. For a short while there’ll be a temporary hiatus in the blog posts and, once we are sailing again, I will come back to the blog and resume the daily updates.
