2026: A Summer in Europe

After two seasons sailing to and around the Caribbean, we returned in June this year: Jono taking two crew to complete the Atlantic circuit with passages from St Martin in the Caribbean to Horta in the Azores, and from there to mainland Europe, making landfall in Portugal before sailing onwards to Gibraltar. We have left Merryn in Gibraltar having a major electrical refit (more on that in the blogs to follow), and taken a short break at our place in the French Alps. A time for walking, cycling, and relaxing. In July we return to Merryn for a couple of months taking her to Sardinia and to our favourite boatyard.

Long passages, a solar eclipse, and Jono is laid low with labyrinthitis

We have had some unplanned long voyages thanks to the vagaries of the weather, with stays in anchorages and an amazing opportunity to see a total solar eclipse. In the middle of it all, Jono gets labyrinthitis and is confined to bed in a darkened room.

Back on board Merryn, now with state-of-the-art electrical systems

Returning to the boat we find the electrical work still in progress and we are stuck in Gibraltar for around two weeks as the work is slowly completed. But it is worth it for the new electrics, complete with the luxury of air-conditioning!

Escaping the heat in the (relative) cool of the mountains

As temperatures soar across Europe, we leave Merryn in the hands of electricians in Gibraltar and head for the Alps for some walking, cycling, and lots of relaxing
