WINTER 21-22:
Back on the slopes in the "new normal"

We are starting this winter season with some trepidation… This time last year we were still in the UK, getting used to a cold winter on the boat in Falmouth, and returning to work to help out with the Covid pandemic. The resorts remained shut, and we were lucky to get in a few weeks of touring at the very end of the spring. This year things look much more hopeful. We got out to France early in November, and are looking forward to a full season skiing.

22nd April 2022

The end of the winter season. Spring is definitely here, with flowers in bloom and the snow rapidly melting. It is our excuse for long lunches, walks in the mountains, and a day trip to Annecy for some shopping.

5th April 2022

The Spring ski tour! We join friends for a week ski touring around Arolla in Switzerland. Memorable huts, fantastic views, and conditions that changed form warmth and sunshine to cold and stormy, all in the one week!

23rd March 2022

Unusual weather with a dusting of Saharan sand and tricky skiing conditions, but some great day tours, and a night in a hut. Our friends Gary and Kristine join us, bringing an uninvited guest!

13th March 2022

Jonathan enjoys a stunning week of off-piste skiing in Andermatt: this is the “off-piste week”, an annual week skiing with a group of friends, testing our off-piste skills to (and often beyond) our limits!

27th February 2022

After a week in England, we have come back to the mountains to enjoy the new snow – a legacy of Storm Eunice that had just passed over the continent depositing over a foot of powder in the Tarentaise

5th February 2022

A week of glorious weather follows a foot of fresh snow, so we have got bak on our skis and enjoyed some new touring routes in Ste Foy and Val d’Isère

31st January 2022

Sally came for a visit and we had our first outings on snowshoes

24th January 2022

Some more touring and fabulous days out with friends.

17th January 2022

A fabulous week of fresh snow, off-piste and touring. Plenty of opportunities to make fresh tracks, and start to shed a little of that Christmas weight!

8th January 2022

Sanity is restored after the excesses of the pre-Christmas trip. We enjoyed Christmas with family in the Three Valleys, and have had a quiet few weeks, with just a little off-piste…

18th December 2021

The pre-Christmas trip! We meet up with friends for the long-awaited return of the pre-Christmas trip – a week in Val d’Isère of skiing and partying. All the more eagerly anticipated having been cancelled last year. With the continued risk of a curtailed season this year we made the most of the good weather and the evening nightlife. A great week.

3rd December 2021

A glorious bluebird powder day in La Rosière. We take advantage of the lack of crowds ahead of the resort opening, and hike to the Roc Noir at 2330m for a descent in fresh powder.

28th November 2021

We head up to Val d-Isère with our friend Neil for the opening weekend of the season. Despite limited skiing, it is fantastic to be back in the mountains and for the resort to be open. Also a rare opportunity to ski on some test skis at no cost, courtesy of an open weekend from the ski manufacturers.

22nd November 2021

An early start to the winter season. Already out in our apartment in France, we have been walking in the mountains to try and get fit, and have even managed a short trip on skis ahead of the official opening of the slopes.
