SUMMER 2022: Onwards to the Eastern Mediterranean

With Merryn recommissioned and relaunched in Sardinia, it is time to move on – our plans this Summer are to explore Sicily, Greece, the Greek islands, and perhaps even a little foray into Turkey. With our fingers crossed that there will be no return of Covid restrictions, we hope to enjoy the company of friends and family on our travels

15th October 2022

The end of the season, and we have been busy in Leros marina – repairing leaks, servicing the engine, sorting the water maker, cleaning and scrubbing. And we have still found time for some socialising and some trips around the island on our bicycles..

1st October 2022

Will these winds ever abate! The last couple of weeks in the Dodecanese have been an exercise in dodging first strong Southerlies, then strong Northerlies. As a result we have pretty much circled Leros in search of calm anchorages, and spent some time in Patmos, with a visit to the Unesco World Heritage Site of the Monastery of St John the Theologian.

18th September 2022

After a week of meltemi winds we finally managed to leave Paros, and have sailed across to Astipalaia: an island we have visited by air before. Our friends Martin and Anne have a place in the old town and we have joined them for yet more socialising, whilst also getting to see some more of the island (or, at least, some of the island’s tavernas!).

5th September 2022

it has been a long time since the last blog: we have fitted in a trip back to France, then returned to Greece to meet our friends Colin and Linda for a terrific couple of weeks exploring the Cyclades and enjoying too much wine!

31st July 2022

After a few more days exploring anchorages around the Ionians, it is time to move onwards: through the extraordinary Corinth Canal and into the Aegean. It is not all sailing and swimming, however: we even manage to visit some of the ancient sites and take in a Greek play.

14th July 2022

Back in Greece, and the start of our trip through the Ionian Islands. Armed with new SUPs, we have been exploring anchorages in secluded spots as we head to Lefkas

4th July 2022

Taking a break… We leave the boat for a few days back in France followed by some time in London. It has been a busy time: walking, visiting family and friends, partying – we even managed to buy an apartment!

18th June 2022

On to Greece! We have left the Italian mainland and embarked on a 140NM crossing of the Ionian Sea to Greece and the Ionian Islands. We have struggled with bureaucracy, wandered through Corfu town, and discovered peace and tranquility in secluded anchorages.

8th June 2022

Our last week in Sicily, and the volcanic theme continues, with a visit to Mount Etna. Authentic Sicilian towns, delightful bays and a brief sortie along the “sole of Italy” complete our Italian trip.

27th May 2022

The Aeolian Islands: spectacular anchorages, beautiful sunsets, pretty villages, ancient history, and the stink of rotting eggs. These islands have it all!

20th May 2022

Onwards to Palermo. In our first week in Sicily, we arrive in Trapani, spend some time in the resort of San Vito Lo Capo, then immerse ourselves in the noise and culture of Palermo

12th May 2022

Crossing the Tyrrhenian Sea from Sardinia to Sicily, accompanied by dolphins playing in our bow wave!

10th May 2022

The 2022 Season gets started. After some frenetic re-commissioning, we have our shakedown sail South to Porto Corallo, our last destination in Sardinia before the passage to Sicily
