Distance travelled in the past 24 hours 136 NM, distance to Horta, Azores 688 NM.
Conditions on our passage have now settled down with the wind a steady force 4 from the south west. Annoyingly, at times the wind strength drops below this and we have been forced to use the engine a little more than we would have liked. However, we are still making good progress.
Highlights yesterday included our first sighting of dolphins; a small pod of about 6 dolphins played and surfed in our bow wave for about ten minutes before disappearing. Later that afternoon we were visited by a sea bird, possibly a tern, that decided to rest on our guard rail for a while.
Now that we are far from the Caribbean we are also noticing a distinct drop in temperature. At night there is a heavy dew and we’ve taken to wearing jumpers to keep warm. For me, after months in the Caribbean, this seems like an amazing novelty. Last night we even had patches of dense fog that left everything outside dripping wet.
Beautiful photos Jono! Keep up the good work.
