24th May: Day 6

Distance covered in the past 24 hours 145 NM, distance to Horta, Azores 1747 NM.

Conditions have settled a lot! We are now sailing beautifully in relatively calm seas and 10-12 knots of wind. It’s sunny and we’re all feeling very positive. The light conditions have been perfect for Helen our Hydrovane, steering via wind power so there is less drain on the batteries. It’s also been much easier to prepare food whilst not heeling to 15 degrees.

Peter has taken the opportunity to continue the growing Astro Navigation lessons. Jon and I have been taking multiple sights multiple times a day, followed by hours spent scratching our heads, using pen and paper to try to calculate our position (all whilst the accurate GPS position is displayed on the screen just inches away).

We continue to head roughly north west towards Bermuda and we are all hoping that the weather conditions will soon allow us to turn eastwards and start making good progress towards Europe.
