Another long day, so we are delighted to collapse into our hotel room in Neufchateau. We planned on 81km of flat terrain, but a combination of our misjudgement and the hopeless software in our sat nav (directing us along a rough, grassy farm track at one point!), meant we increased the journey to 88km and had nearly 800m of ascent over the course of the day. The days are getting hotter, too and we have twice now stopped to ask people if they could give us some water to refill our water bottles. Fortunately they have been very kind, insisting not on tap water but giving us bottled mineral water.
Our route took us past the Basilica to Jeanne d’Arc, who was apparently born nearby. It was a magnificent church with lots of statues, but sadly we were too tired to spend much time there. Tomorrow (it is always tomorrow…) we will have a shorter day 🤞
