Distance covered in the last 24 hours:135NM, 527NM to our destination.
Progress in the past day has been a little slow. The winds remain light, and often in the wrong direction. We had one attempt at sailing, but found ourselves making almost no headway as we beat against an easterly wind, so quickly reverted to the engine. At least the forecast looks more favourable, with winds due to back until they will be northerly or northwesterly, and we should be able to get on with sailing soon.
We are at least glad that there have been no more Orca sightings, and we continue to see plenty of dolphins. Peter has found our cribbage board, so crib has taken over from backgammon as the game of choice.
I have been planning ahead, and looking at options to navigate so called “Orca alley” – the entrance to the Gibraltar strait. Rather than enter directly, we will be taking a more northerly route, passing Cabo Sao Vicente on the SW tip of Portugal, then hugging the coast with stops in Vilamoura, Rota and perhaps other harbours. Cate and I have visited many of the places along that stretch of coast before, so it will great to see them again.
