28th January 2025: Day 12

The weather continues to be our main concern. The forecasts had lulled us into a false sense of security, believing the worst of the weather to be over. The last 24 hours have proven us wrong. Overnight we had the strongest squalls yet – lasting well over an hour in the middle of the night, there was torrential rain and winds of up to 36 knots. In the dark it felt like we were surfing down every wave! The picture is of the radar image of the squall in the night – that big splodge of colour on the screen! Today the strong winds continued all through the morning, generally around 27 knots, with big waves from behind to match. Fingers crossed, at last it seems to be settling a little.

The other weather related issue is the temperature – it is getting hotter and hotter, and more humid too. We are drinking loads of chilled water and having daily showers. Fortunately we have a water maker, or desalinator, that enables us to keep the tanks topped up just by running the machine for an hour or two a day.

We continue to make good progress. Each day we reach a new record for distance covered, and we are now at an average speed of close to 7 knots.

  1. Well done guys. Nearly in the Caribbean Sea, inside whatever that island chain is called – the waves seem consistently lower there.
Hang in there, you must be exhausted

    1. Hi Guys, Just passing to the south of Barbados. We’ve made it to the Caribbean and just heading to the windward Islands. xxx
