Sunday brought another fantastic sunny day and we headed back to Col du Palet in Tignes to see if we could find untracked powder. Success! We dropped down the valley and headed towards Col de la Grassaz, circling the Aiguille Noire, and after an hour’s walk found a superb descent.
We had planned to climb Col de la Tourne but there was a big avalanche onto the skinning track on the north face and, with avalanche risk still higher on north facing slopes, decided to return via Col du Palet. This still gave us magnificent views of the Grand Casse where we toured with Pierre and friends in March 2017, and we stopped for lunch at the Refuge du Col du Palet which is due to open next weekend.
