Just like the old days! In April earlier this year we were skinning up the slopes of La Rosière to enjoy empty powder fields on the descent, and today we went back, ahead of the official opening of the season, to do the same. Plenty of snow has fallen over the last week, so we were cautious on the ascent, sticking to tracks made by other ski tourers, to reach the top of the “Roc Noir” at an elevation of about 2330 metres: a climb of just around 500 metres.
As the pictures show, the weather was glorious, and there was fresh powder everywhere! Even with numerous stops to take pictures, we were back to the car park in no time, but enjoyed every turn.
Today may prove to be our only day in La Rosière without the usual crowds: the season here opens next weekend, but “pre-opening” lift passes are being issued for this weekend, so fresh powder won’t last long once the lifts open.

That looks fabulous! It seems that La Rosiere has become an off piste haven for you. Joie de vivre, Kris and Gary. Xx

Hi Gilly,
Lovely to hear from you, and please excuse the poor quality of our videos. I’d like to say they will get better, but that would be a rash promise! Really hope you have a great sailing season next year.
