31st January 2025: Day 15

Land ahoy!!!

We have arrived. It seems almost unreal, after 14 days and 5hrs, and a total of 2305NM (at least, according to our log), we have docked safely in Port Louis Marina in St. George’s bay, Grenada. And what a welcome! Oliver and Carlota from the Rally committee were there on the dock, as was the Marina manager (pressing rum punches into our eager hands), and so many of our friends from the rally – Frank and Rosie, Pam and Theo, Rob and Satomi, Todd and Catherine, and crew from Apsara and Keep Kool. All were eager to share stories and experiences of the crossing; it felt fantastic.

Our approach was not without some final stress. As we entered the bay the clouds gathered overhead and we were subjected to a huge downpour. Visibility reduced to just a couple of hundred yards through the rain. It did not make for a relaxed arrival! Fortunately, the clouds cleared as we got to the marina, and our eventual arrival in the dock was straightforward (just as well, given the welcoming committee!).

Once settled, and once we finished the rum punch, we have been busy with formalities: checking into the marina, and registering with customs and immigration. We have also given Merryn a thorough clean – much needed after 14 days at sea, and had a bite to eat. We have already been invited to join a small group for dinner at a local sushi restaurant. Our biggest challenge will be to stay awake throughout the meal!

Over the next couple of days we expect the remaining rally sailors to arrive, and will give them a welcome as big as we received. We plan to relax here for at least a week before venturing further into the Caribbean islands. It is also time to have a short break from the daily updates, but keep an eye on our blogs – there will be more…
