28th November 2021

In the nick of time… snow hits the Alps, starting on Friday, just a day before the official opening of the season in Val d-Isère on the 27th of November. The snow has transformed the resort, and indeed, the whole area. Where we had been enjoying Autumn walks, now snow is everywhere, and winter has definitely arrived!

Over the weekend we have been joined by our friend Neil Shorney, and drove up to the resort for a couple of days. The skiing has been a bit “variable” – patchy snow, limited runs, cold and wet – but still it felt great to be back on the slopes. Many of the major ski manufacturers were holding an open session, offering free ski trials, so it was also great to trial some super-expensive skis without any expectation of actually buying them. In the picture I’ve got a pair of Movement Alp Tracks 95: ultra-lightweight touring skis that cost around €900, and that’s without the bindings! Fabulous to ski on, but I think I’ll stick to my old pair!

Hope you enjoy the short video of the weekend.
