Final day – The return home
The picture, I’m afraid, says it all. The strong northerly winds of the last day or two have brough cold weather, rain and, in the mountains, snow. Discretion being the better part of valour, we have opted to escape to home. This morning we cycled anout 8km in the pouring rain to get to the nearest train station (La Péage de Rousillon), with a sequence of train changes we got to Bourg St Maurice earlier this afternoon and finished the trip home with a further 15km cycle up the valley to Ste Foy via Villaroger. It is still raining, and from the village we can see snow in the hills above. Apparantly the snow line is at about 1300m, and we know the cols have shut, so we would not have been able to cycle back via the Cormet de Roseland in any case (that, at least, is a good excuse for bailing out).
Home now, warming up and drying out with the heating on. Now we just have to think of our next adventure…
