27th January 2025: day 11

Dawn was beautiful and today the weather seems more settled with blue skies and fair-weather clouds.  It’s hot and humid and we really want to jump in the sea but that will have to wait until we arrive.  Swell is now under 3m and the wind has become more steady at 18-22 knots.  We are sailing along beautifully and rapidly counting down the hours until we arrive.

Our main concerns now are the squalls, and the possibility of thunderstorms as the CAPE rises over the next few days.  Last night, on my evening watch in pitch darkness, we had a mega squall.  With winds of 35 knots and torrents of rain it felt as though poor Merryn was being hurled into oblivion.  It’s such a weird feeling powering through the sea with no idea of what is ahead.  Thankfully the clouds cleared and a wonderful view of the Milky Way followed.  That sort of evening is other-worldly, stargazing and listening to podcasts and audiobooks.

Now the seas are a little calmer we are more easily able to prepare food.  Today’s lunch was Greek salad.  The vegetables and fruit we had delivered on 3rd January are still going strong.  Tonight will be Mediterranean roast vegetables with lentils and haloumi.

  1. I’m in bed with a cup of tea listening to the rain and wind and sea outside the window and am utterly in awe of your achievements. What an adventure! Nearly there. Xxx
Ps glad to see you won’t be getting scurvy🍊🍋🥰
