Compared to the start of our Caribbean season, the winds have calmed down a lot and the seas are more settled. That has given us the perfect excuse to visit the Tobago Cays, part of the St Vincent and the Grenadines group, and a beautiful spot for some wildlife watching – both on land and in the water.
We dropped anchor in a shallow sandy spot and spent four nights in the area, swimming and snorkelling every day. We bought fish off a passing fisherman one day for a lovely supper, and on another evening went ashore for a lobster barbecue – very much the “tourist thing to do”!
The wildlife is amazing – lots of fish in the shallow seas, and turtles that swam around us (I took a video camera on snorkelling trips, but failed to get any pictures of the turtles, sadly). On land giant iguanas strolled around, especially early morning before the crowds arrived. I was lucky to see them one morning when I went ashore to fly the drone for some more pictures.
I have put together a short video of our time there – using an ancient video camera after my newer 360 camera drowned a few weeks ago! So apologies for the slightly blurry image, but I hope you like the music…
