Today we reached the 13 degree latitude having chosen to go south as it may help us avoid some of the wilder weather north of us. We are the yellow dot on the tracking map so, as the smallest boat, we are doing very well compared to our fellow Vikings. The fast group north of us are mainly racy catamarans and 50 feet+. We’ve turned slightly more to the west now and our instruments show just another 1586 nautical miles to go. So, we are over a quarter of the way there. Whoo hoo!
Our daily checks have revealed a small diesel leak. We’ve checked the engine, fuel feeds and fuel tank but haven’t found the source. Hopefully it will remain a tiny trickle and we can investigate further once we reach land.
From the 23rd to 29th January the forecast is for strong winds and big swell. We’re really not looking forward to this as we’re already rolling around in what feels like a jacuzzi. I made my last loaf of soda bread and we took what may be our last showers for a while – sitting on a non-slip mat on the loo seat lid as it’s impossible to stand.
