Last night was an incredibly beautiful night.  Before the moon rose the stars gave just enough light to show the horizon between inky black sea and deep grey sky.  The stars gave a dazzling display and phosphorescence reflected from the water.  Merryn glided through the waves with only the sound of the surf.

We’ve settled into a routine of three-hour watches overnight during the twelve hours of darkness.  Fortunately, we have a bright waning moon lighting up the night skies making the watches feel a little less daunting.  By day we still nap but also do routine tasks – checking ropes, rigging and sails to ensure that they are not chafing and, down below, ensuring that seacocks are not leaking, running the water maker, planning meals that can be cooked safely and checking that our fruit and vegetable stores are not rotting.

At 7am and 5pm we fire up our Starlink satellite internet access to check in with the rest of the world, download weather forecasts, view our fellow Vikings tracks and publish this short Blog.

I’m finding it difficult to find photos as there’s not much out here apart from sea and sky, but today there’s one of my mini herb garden and our hammocks of fruit.
