Doingt to Ste Foy: 47.2km, 449m ascent (oh, and a train ride!)
We have arrived!
Not entirely according to the original plan: sadly we have run out of time, as we are returning to the UK for a good friend’s 70th birthday party. So today we cut short our trip a bit with a train ride from Albertville to Bourg St Maurice.
We had a good day – leaving Duingt with its beautiful castle overlooking the lake, we rejoined the cycle path that runs alongside the lake, and followed it all the way to Albertville. In Albertville we had time for a quick coffee at the station bar then took the train to Bourg St Maurice. The train ride is just an hour, but saved us a couple of days cycle, as our plan had been to cross the Cormet de Roseland, one of the iconic Alpine passes, and a route which would have taken a fair bit of effort (we know, we have done it before!). In Bourg we stopped at the supermarket to get a bit of food for this evening, then continued on a new cycle path that took us all the way up to Ste Foy.
It is a great feeling to get back to our chalet – seven months since we left here to sail across to the Caribbean. Assorted friends have been staying over the winter and we were delighted to find the place looking spotless, and even with a bottle of champagne to welcome us (thank you Gary and Ryan!). This will probably be the last blog for a little while (apart from a video of the trip that I will prepare over the next week or so), but when we are back from our friend’s birthday, we hope to be doing some more cycling, perhaps even returning to Albertville and completing the cycle trip properly – all will be posted here!
Congratulations Cate and Jonathan!
